Katta to Patta

Kasun learned early that learning is supposed to hurt. The Grade 5 scholarship, the packed tuition halls, the 84-page mandatory training deck at his first office job. Most of us grew up with the same story.

Then the turn: it doesn't have to be that way.

Why grown-ups queued

Senior HR professionals queued for a childhood game

Nobody had to explain the rules. Nobody needed a reason to try again. Strangers cheered for each other. For two days, a fairground ring toss held more attention than most corporate courses ever do.

It took people straight back to Avurudu games and school fairs. Four things did the work.

  • Simple rulesThrow the ring over a bottle. That's it.
  • A clear targetSeven bottles, one Coke in the middle.
  • A reward you can holdA packet of manyokka, warm from the kade.
  • An audienceA queue behind you, cheering every throw.

Can you ring the Coke?

Five rings, seven bottles, same as the booth. Ring a green bottle for one packet of manyokka, the dark one in the middle for two. Every bottle you ring opens one idea from this paper. A miss costs you the manyokka, never the learning.

The six ingredients

What makes a game people queue for

The same six ideas as the bottles. Each one shows up at the booth, and each one has a direct equivalent in good learning design.

Play isn't a break from learning. It's how learning sticks. The Coke bottle, worth two packets. Swishh builds games, simulations and videos people want to finish.

Send us your most කට්ට course, and we'll show you how to make it පට්ට.

We'll score it against the six ingredients and show you where a game, a simulation or a short video would do more work than another slide. No cost, no obligation.
